This boy was found wandering the neighborhood.  Several neighbors tried to catch him, for days... but he was elusive. Fearful and skittish, he did not trust anyone.  A kind lady was sitting on the curb with her dog, hoping to lure him close enough to put a slip leash over his head, when another not so helpful citizen lunged to grab him.  In his fear and panic, he bit that fellow.

(I don't blame him.)  This was FEAR - NOT AGGRESSION!  He took off.  But, since he bit someone, he was reported to the local animal control who dispatched 3 ACO's to wrangle this 'artful dodger'.  Dogs with no proof of rabies MUST be quarantined for 10 days to ensure they are not infected with the deadly disease.  Rabies symptoms will present within 10 days.  If, after 10 days of no symptoms, the dog is deemed to be NOT infected with rabies and can then be released from custody for adoption.

After hours of chasing the poor pup with their trucks and on foot with catch poles they chased him out onto a busy street.  He disappeared.  (Thankfully)

I was called to the scene by volunteers to help corral him.  It was clear chasing him would NOT result in catching him.  I set up my ex-pen, some water and hot-dogs.  sat quietly, but he didn't come back.  I left my information and supplies with the neighbors and advised them to let me know if they could contain him in their yard or garage.

I got a call at 10:00 that evening.  He'd gone into someone's garage.  He was caught.  I drove to the home where he was being cared for and brought him home.  I called ACO the next day and let them know I had him.

AC allowed me to quarantine the dog.  He's been seen by the vet.  After 10 days, he was cleared and vaccinated.

In the meantime, he is decompressing and "coming out of his shell".  We are loving on him and teaching him trust.

So far, we've learned Dodger is a 'people person' - longing to be with his people and follow them around the house.  He's friendly with other dogs, intimidated by kitties! He is house broken. Dodger does well both inside and outside a crate; he has not exhibited destructive behavior. He is an energetic little fella who enjoys running in the back yard. He is a spunky, upbeat, playful pup.
