All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston. Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system. To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters. Our adoption fee varies by dog. We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only. A FTA contract is required.
This small baby was surrendered by her owner after she married a man with 2 large dogs....they constantly attacked her causing injuries....although she had only 1 owner, she was not vetted nor spayed...... Her fee is $200 More about TwiggyIs Not Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids, Good with Women Only, Good for Seniors/Elderly, Somewhat vocal, Does not require a yard, Likes to be in your lap, Apartment OK, Prefers cool climate, Prefers warm climate, Protective, Skittish, Not good with small dogs Special Needs: Being diagnosed with arthritis she will require pain meds and anti-inflammatory medication. At this time it is Tramadol and Meloxicam. She cannot be stressed or left to fend for herself. At times, she will need water and food brought to her; she can't be left with the assumption "she knows where her bowls are so she will eat when she's hungry." She will become dehydrated quickly. When her soft dog food is unappealing, even when it's offered by hand, she eats boiled chicken breast ( very very small bites) as long as someone supervises her meal so that she eats slowly, one piece at a time. The teeth she has remaining are loose, sensitive and basically not capable of breaking hard or chewy food. Occasionally she has some anxiety during meal time. She doesn't want to be a burden and if she feels you are impatient or out of time in dealing with her, she will refuse to eat, walk away as if she doesn't like or want it, just to appease you. As a senior, that had only 1 owner, til Yorkie Rescue Houston took her in, she gets embarrassed when she has an accident, snaps or snips from fear or is moving too slow. At this stage, it is imperitive that she is given dignified options as her body functions start to "sneak up on her". She must be picked up to be transferred to and from any location other than along the floor. Padded beds (at least 2, unless you don't mind moving 1 all the time) including a blanket. When you go to bathroom, she goes too and will require a soft spot to lay ( it is useful to have a water bowl in there too); she will not seek out water and if she does not approach the bowl when entering a room, you may have to bring the bowl to her. She will not betray you or forget you, you have to be able to reciprocate that. Yorkie Rescue Houston is a 501(c)(3) charity as defined by the I.R.S.
