All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only.

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.

Owner surrendered at the harris county shelter to be euthanized. Irresponsible breeding led to unwanted puppies. This precious girl is a total love bug.

She is too young to be adopted. So she is FOSTER-TO-ADOPT only.

From her foster:

Tootsie is a really sweet girl. The first thing I noticed about her is how she kind of melts in your arms when you hold her. She would let us carry her around the house a lot and be held like a baby. She is a sweet, chunky puppy.

Vetting

She was way too young to be in a shelter. Probably only 4-5 weeks old when she was surrendered. Way too young to be away from mom, especially for a small breed dog. She came to us with parasites - coccida, hook, and tapeworms. She's all better now after deworming, and tested negative on her last test. She also got an upper respiratory infection. That's really common with dogs in the shelter. Antibiotics cleared it up, and she is a healthy, energetic girl. Now she is just finishing her puppy booster shots and needs to be spayed. She is only available foster-to-adopt until then.

Personality and Preferences

When you put her on the ground, she shifts into go mode - she runs around energetically and wants to play a lot. If you aren't prepared for that high energy puppy mode, this wouldn't be a good match. She chases our 20 lb dog around the house and yard. She likes to run laps in the yard! She ignores our dogs personal space, haha! She's still learning doggy manners, but he is patient and a good teacher. Tootsie likes stuffed animals and bones to chew on. She's only around 4 months old, so she is in the middle of teething. She has those sharp little baby teeth still. Tootsie really likes pig ears, bully sticks, piggy sticks, and dog bones with marrow. Whimzees are also something she has liked. Enjoys a variety of toys and is not picky.

Training

Like most young puppies, she is not potty trained completely. She will have accidents in the house. But she does know that going outside means it's time to potty and goes to the bathroom right away when it's time to go out. I don't use disposable floor pads for her because she tears them up, but I do use washable dog diapers. She is used to being on a leash, but definitely needs a harness. She will sometimes run around fast or pull on her collar. A harness is much more secure.

We started early on kennel training, and she does well with the kennel. Sleeps through the night without issues.

Important notes

She does have CAR ANXIETY. She gets anxious and will salivate/drool a lot in the car. She will sit still in your lap, but there is obvious car anxiety. 

Food

Her food right now is Taste of the Wild Puppy and Taste of the Wild wet food. She has a great appetite and loves to eat. She also drinks a lot of water. She is an active puppy after all!

Temperament

Good with other dogs. Not sure how she is with cats. Good with gentle, respectful kids and people she meets. She would LOVE a back yard.

She is a sweet puppy and will be a great addition to a family prepared for that puppy energy and who has no issue potty training. She's precious.

Public Service Announcement:
Effective Immediately - Due to limited resources, we will now hold FOUND (stray) dogs for 5 days. After that, they will be eligible for ADOPTION.

Please note that we have no shelter where our rescues can be viewed. All of our dogs are in private homes being fostered until they find their forever home. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application.

Yorkie Rescue Houston has no paid staff.  We are all volunteers.  We also have families, jobs and lives outside of rescue.  We do our best to communicate with our potential adopters, but please understand, we simply do not have the resources to contact every applicant personally.
