Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only. A FTA contract is required.
History Joey is a 12 month old poodle miniature pinscher mix. He was surrendered to the rescue in September with his sister, Pheobe, from the same litter. Joey and Phoebe came from a loving, caring home, but their owner unfortunately lost their job and had to surrender them. The two puppies were originally adopted from their friend's dog's litter when they were old enough to find a new home. Their owner made sure they got their puppy shots and all vet care, and they were made yummy homemade dog food with chicken daily, as well as fed canned dog food. They are definitely used to TLC and love. Joey's owner named him after the character from the tv show Friends. Vetting Up to date on all vaccines, including DHPP, bordetella, and rabies. Heartworm negative. Neutered. Microchipped. Dewormed. Size Joey is an adorable small dog. He's only about 10-12 lbs, and should not end up weighing much more than that. Personality Joey is super sweet when he comes to trust a new person. Once he's comfortable with you, he LOVES being picked up and is so happy to be held all the time. You could probably walk around holding him all day, and he'd love it. He would be a good lap dog, and also loves being pet a lot. Joey will even climb in your lap to cuddle. He loves attention from people he trusts, and wants nothing more than to be with you all the time. He will put his little legs up on your leg to get picked up or pet. Sometimes he will lick your hands or arms when he's happy. He tends to have anxiety with new people - will sometimes bark at them, sudden sounds, or when he feels scared or anxious. He was nippy at first when he felt afraid, but his anxiety has improved a lot and he has not been nippy at all since. His foster is working on training with him and helping him learn to be less anxious. Joey has already improved SO much. With patience and love, we believe he will become more confident and calmer. He should go to a home with an experienced dog owner, that will continue to give him lots of TLC and patience with his training. Joey is great with other dogs, and plays very well with them. No homes with kids, due to his small size and anxiety. He barks sometimes when he is anxious, but this has been decreasing as gets more comfortable with time. Not suitable for apartment homes (barking complaint from neighbors). Houses only. Training Used to walking on leash and going outside to potty. He does not really pull on his leash, which is great. Needs to wear a secure harness when walking on leash (little dogs have more delicate necks). Not fully potty trained yet, but has not had many accidents. He definitely knows that going outside means potty time. He is used to the kennel and sleeping in it overnight. Knows to sit for a treat when you ask. Food Joey eats dry dog food and also loves wet food, pureed pumpkin, plain chicken breast and rice. He loves most treats, especially soft chew treats and dehydrated treats (like chicken hearts). Other Notes He is attached to his sister Phoebe, as they were from the same litter and have been together every day since they were born. He tends to depend on her for comfort, but we are working on helping him gain more confidence in himself as well. He has been doing well sleeping in a kennel on his own without her for a long time now. They will cuddle together in the same bed, which is adorable. We would love to find them a forever home together, as they are very attached to each other.
