All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only.

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.

this senior found his way to rescue when the family toddler reached an age where she could hurt him.

Rather than see either of their baby's hurt, they surrendered Waffles to us so we could place him in a safer environment.

Waffles's blood work came back fairly good, but he is in need of a dental. So that is happening 12/23.

After that... this boy is looking for a home with no toddlers!

Likes

• Walks! He likes to take long, SLOW walks. He listens very well to commands like wait and come on.
• Playing with his favorite toys: balls, teddy bear, and anything that squeaks
  • He loves chasing balls and pushing them around, but does not fetch well.
• Snuggling on the couch. He’ll spend all day being petted.
• Being brushed! Except his face. But he gets so excited for a nice long brush session.
• Wearing his sweaters when it’s cold. It is also calming for him.
• All human food.
• Presents! The word alone excites him.

Dislikes

• Car Rides. He likes to be held or sit on a lap. He does love sticking his head out the window.
• Vacuum, broom…I just always put him away during cleaning time to reduce his anxiety.
• Kids. Any and all.
• He prefers females over males.
• The blow-dryer. We towel try him and then let him air dry.
• Bath time, but he waits patiently and then loves being clean afterwards
• Big dogs and cats, but he does like small dogs.
• Being stepped on! He will snap if you accidently step on him.

Random

• Is the BEST at doing tricks for treats
  • Sit, Up, Down, Roll Over, Play Dead, High Five, Shake, Spin… he’ll learn any trick for a treat
• Allergic to topical medications!!
• During seizure episodes, just hold him until they are finished then take him outside immediately. He will usually go to the bathroom afterwards. They usually last around 5 minutes.
• Needs mediation for the groomer to calm him down.
• Never been in a cage.

Public Service Announcement:
Effective Immediately - Due to limited resources, we will now hold FOUND (stray) dogs for 5 days. After that, they will be eligible for ADOPTION.

Please note that we have no shelter where our rescues can be viewed. All of our dogs are in private homes being fostered until they find their forever home. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application.

Yorkie Rescue Houston has no paid staff.  We are all volunteers.  We also have families, jobs and lives outside of rescue.  We do our best to communicate with our potential adopters, but please understand, we simply do not have the resources to contact every applicant personally.
