Gizzie needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?

All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only.

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.

the DNA results are in. - She's a SHORKIE

S he has a bite history.  But she was in pain and afraid.  She has not bitten again since her initial injury.  She adores the children in her foster home.

This precious baby was hit by a car and taken in by a Good Samaritan.  She was quoted $5-$6k for surgical correction.  She was surrendered to our rescue so we could help.

She was officially on a 'rabies bite hold' through the City of Houston because she did bite the person trying to help her!  (She was in pain, that's understandable)

We transported her to our fabulous Ortho surgical expert, Dr. Brady Hanson over at NVC - Groves and they plated and pinned both her legs at the pelvis and amputated her badly broken tail.

She is recovering in a foster home.  When she's released from medical, she's be available to adopt.

SHE IS A RUNNER!  SHE WILL NOT BE ADOPTED TO A HOME WITHOUT A FENCED YARD

Gizzie's Foster Mom says:

Gizzie is recovering nicely.
She is very sweet and very gentle and she loves to sit in a lap.
She is a big talker. When she wants to play she begins a growling “talk”. A little bit of a watchdog.
She’s very good with children and other dogs, haven’t seen any cats yet, but I suspect she would be very sweet. She loves playing with other dogs!
She is playful and loving. We are working on house training, she doesn’t foul her crate and can go all night without going outside. She understands why we go outside and is very close to being housetrained. She is still a puppy, but we haven’t had any accidents in four or five days. We are diligent in locking her in a crate, in the utility room, holding her, and taking her outside before we put her in and after we remove her from her safe areas. She now stays in the utility room and has the run of the entire room all day and doesn’t have any accidents. She goes outside three or four times during the day.
She is able to walk long distances (maybe 200-300 feet several times a day) but may always have a little limp. Her stride is almost normal when she’s walking but when she runs she tends to hop.
Gizzie will need a family who can be committed to taking care of her special needs throughout her life. It’s too early to tell, but she may not ever be able to jump onto or off of furniture. She has learned to “jump”over thresholds to enter the house and will now “climb” onto higher areas in the yard. She has made so much progress for a pup who had a devastating injury followed by 3 major surgeries.
We have just begun introducing toys and she loves her small stuffed animals. She likes to play ball and chase her little toys. She will bring them back to you.
Gizzie is exceptionally smart. She learned her name in just a few days. The first day I worked on sit, she surprised me by sitting when I said it about the sixth time that day. She knows our routine and knows what is expected of her. I am most impressed for a puppy who is probably 5 to 6 months old. She is so smart!

Due to the nature of her injury and surgical correction, a home WITHOUT STAIRS is probably most appropriate for Gizzie!

In addition, while Gizzie's profile says she is 'good with kids'; due to her bite history, it is not appropriate to send her to a home with children.
